Detailed Meghalaya Judicial Service Examination Exam Pattern
The Meghalaya Judicial Service Examination is conducted in two stages, the written exam and the viva-voce. Unlike most other states, there is normally no preliminary exam to shortlist candidates for the mains.
Detailed Meghalaya Judicial Service Examination Syllabus
Paper-1. General Awareness and English Language
(a) A short Essay of about 300 words [40 marks]
(b) Precis writing consisting of about 150 words [30 marks] ,
(c) Judgment writing [30 marks]
(d) General Aptitude Test of about 50 multiple choice questions [50 marks] 150 marks
Paper-ll: Procedural Law- Civil and Criminal
(a) The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.
(b) The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.
(c) The Indian Evidence Act, 1872. (d) The Limitation Act, 1963.
(e) The Court Fees (Meghalaya) Amendment Acts.
(f) The Indian Stamps (Meghalaya) Amendments Acts. 150 marks
Paper-Ill: Substantive Law
(a) The Indian Penal Code, 1860.
(b) The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2000.
(c) The Specific Relief Act, 1963.
(d) The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
(e) The Transfer of Property Act, 1882.
(f) Law of Torts
(g) Jurisprudence and Constitution of India. 150 marks
(1) Duration of the written examination shall be of 3(three) hours for each paper.
(2) Appearing in each Paper will be compulsory.
There shall be Personal Interview Test of 50 marks.
All candidates who obtain 60(sixty) percent or more marks in the written examination shall be eligible for Personal Interview.
Provided that Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/OBC candidates who obtain 50 (fifty) percent or more marks in the written examination shall be eligible for the Personal Interview.
The object of the Personal Interview is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth and the like of the candidate.
Final Selection of candidates shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in the written examination and Personal Interview.
